Finding your own "Fitness Routine"

Here's the deal, I don't know about you, but I have tried a TON of different "fitness routines". Every time I find a new way to get my heart pumping, I instantly believe that I've finally found THE thing that is going to give me my dream bod (ha). I've spent a ton of money on different "routines" that all have compelling names: full-body, cardio, HIIT, circuit training, waist training, bikini body guide, ETC. No matter the program, the schedule, or the time commitment, I can never follow through. Why? Because i'm not listening to what my body actually NEEDS!

I feel great when I spend time each week exercising but I feel my BEST when I'm listening to my body and letting it be the guide. Some weeks, I have the energy to get moving every day with high intensity workouts. Other weeks, I can go on a run once but then can barely make it to yoga the next day because of extreme fatigue. I have an auto-immune disease (Hashimotos) that oftentimes takes a toll on my energy levels and stamina. When i'm constantly trying to go-go-go and stick to a certain routine, my body will almost always burn out. What I've found through lots of experimentation, is that when I started to listen to where my body was at each day, give myself grace, and honor my rest days, I found my own personal routine that I can stick to!

Everybody is different and has different physical capacities and it is important to observe your own specific needs when it comes to fitness. Do a little experimenting with cardio/strength training and see what energizes you, what exhausts you, and best yet, what actually gives you results. What works for me may not work for you and thats okay! Thats more than okay, it's beautiful! I take so much more pride in how I workout now because I know that it is truly giving my body what it NEEDS and in return, I get results!

So, what is my workout routine? It may not be the trendiest or something to brag about, but it works for ME!

-2 runs a week (2 miles)

-2-3 strength training sessions for 30 minutes (target: arms/abs)

-Yoga 5x a week (this is only so much because I am currently in yoga teacher training! These classes are not strenuous but focus more on stretching and relaxation)

-1-3 active activities! (Surfing, hiking, biking etc. )

I encourage you to get out there and get moving so that you can find your own rhythm! Your body will tell you what it wants, you just gotta listen! <3
