Summer Travel Beauty Essentials

travelbeautyessentialsblog

I have traveled quite a bit this Summer and so I've spent a lot of time packing, unpacking, and re-packing my cosmetics bag! I think I have finally narrowed it down to my tried & true favorite products to have on hand while I travel! I like to keep it simple, especially while traveling and so I try to keep it pretty minimal while packing my cosmetics. Here are the top items that I think are crucial to have on hand while traveling!

My Must-haves:

1. Mineral Powder to keep you matte all day

This is probably my must-have #1 because there is nothing worse than having to reapply makeup throughout the day! If you have followed me for long then you know that I am obsessed with this Mineral Peptide Powder and I hardly ever use any other face makeup! It has SPF in it, protects my skin from the environment, and gives great coverage!

2.  Life-proof Mascara

When you travel, you need a mascara that can withstand long days in the sun, adventuring around a new town, and to make it through happy hour! I have tried a ton of different mascaras and Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara is by far my favorite. I love the volume it gives to my lashes and the tube lasts me such a long time! Totally worth the price, in my opinion!!

3. A Moisturizing Deodorant

This may seem strange and TMI but when I travel to dryer climates, my arm-pits sometimes get irritated after shaving!  I'm not sure if this happens to you too but Native Deodorant is my all time favorite deodorant and its super moisturizing while also sweat resistant!

4. Eye serum (ain't no one got time for under-eye bags!)

There's nothing like jet lag to bring out those under-eye bags. my Bright Eye Complex is my #1 skincare item when it comes to travel because it instantly brightens my under-eye and gets rid of any dark circles or puffiness!

5. Self-tanner

Since sun-protection is really important to me, I use R+F's Sunless Tanner to keep my tan game strong all year round. I often travel because of a wedding, special event, or a work function and so I keep self-tanner with me to help me get ready for an event!

6. Dry Shampoo

I have been using Dry Bar's Detox Dry Shampoo recently and am LOVING it! Also- this is currently on sale for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and so if you were wanting to try out a new dry shampoo or texturizing spray you have to get this bundle before it sells out!!

7. Hair Detangling Spray

My hair is hard to manage. It's like a lion's mane and taming it is out of the question. I've tried so many different brands of detangling spray and it's been so hard to find one that works but doesn't weigh down my hair! I just picked up this Verb Leave-in Mist from Sephora and have only used it a few times but I am already OBSESSED. It is so lightweight, doesn't have a heavy scent, and makes my hair so smooth and easy to comb! 10/10.

8. Neutral eye-shadow

When I travel, I like to keep my makeup pretty simple and no-fuss. I always have a neutral eyeshadow palette with me s that I can still create numerous looks but don't have to think too hard! I am currently LOVE this Nordy Girl Matte Face & Eye set from the NSALE! I'm not sure how much longer it will be in stock but $44.50 for $202 value?! That's insane!!

Staying safe in the SUN!

Hawaii Travel Tropical Vacation

Hello friends!! I feel like its been awhile since i've written a blog post. I promise to get more consistent! After a few rainy & gloomy months here on Oahu, the sun is FINALLY starting to come out! It seems like going to the beach is all I can think about lately and I never thought I would be THAT kind of person, the beach bum with an extreme addiction to the sun, water, and sand between the toes. But, here I am.

Even though I am probably the Sun's biggest fan, I am SUPER careful to always practice SAFE-SUN so that I don't get sun damage. You see, skin cancer runs HEAVILY in my family. My mom has gotten skin cancer so many times I can't even count it on one hand. My dear friend died of Melanoma in his twenties. I couldn't believe it. People often talk about breast cancer or lung cancer or prostate cancer but people don't often talk about skin cancer. I'm here to tell you that skin cancer is a BIG DEAL and you want to protect your precious skin from it at all costs!

Other than cancer itself, the sun can cause irreparable damage to your skin! The sun is the #1 premature ager for skin and can cause sun spots, wrinkles, etc!

I don't want to be ALLLL negative, though. The sun actually has some pretty amazing benefits too!! Getting sun exposure is actually crucial to your health! Vitamin D is an incredible vitamin that our body NEEDS for immunity, hormone balance, digestion, etc! FULL DISCLOSURE: I believe in the benefits of the sun so much that I'm all about laying in the without sunscreen on for 10-15 minutes to get all the GOOD UV rays on my body. After that, though, I slather on the sunscreen & can enjoy the rest of my time in the sun knowing that I am protecting my skin!

Here's a couple of my SAFE-SUN tips!!!

1. ALWAYS wear a hat. Please, for the love of everything good, wear a hat!! The skin on our face is much thinner and more sensitive than other places on our body. Another one of my dear friends just had to get surgery on the corner of her EYE because of skin cancer. By wearing a hat (& a good quality SPF on your face) you are not only protecting your skin from cancer, but also from sun spots!

2. Don't just use spray sunscreen, lotion sunscreen is where it's at! I only purchase high-quality sunscreens with minimal chemicals and healthy benefits for your skin! Most spray sunscreens have many harmful ingredients that you really don't want anywhere near you! Because of that, I normally stick to lotion sunscreens! Not only do they add a thicker layer of protection to your skin but they also have vitamins that go back in your skin to help nourish it even more! This one is my absolute favorite. I also just bought the new Pacifica spray sunscreen from Target! I haven't tried it yet but I am excited about trying a non-toxic spray option!

3. Re-apply every two hours! I know that sounds so elementary but it is vital. You can't just apply sunscreen once and think you are fine. Reapply every time you get out of the water or as soon as your skin starts to feel "tingly" like it can feel in the sun on it!

4. Remember that this will ALL be worth it in twenty years. I have to end with this tip because I know so many people who goto tanning booths and just day "oh well, i'll pay for it later I guess". DON'T DO THAT! If someone told you that you could eat a certain way to avoid all types of cancer, would you do it? The same goes with your skin! YOU are in control of how you treat your skin and so treat with with love & kindness & protection! I'm saying all of this with the utmost love because I care about every single person who reads this blog and I don't want you to go through what I have seen some of my loved ones go through. <3

I hope you love these safe-sun tips! Do you have any others? Comment them down below! I'd love to hear them! :)

Minimalistic Makeup

I don't know about you but I used to be a makeup hoarder. I collected eye shadows, lipsticks, eye shadow brushes... you name it, I had twenty. I was always on the search for the PERFECT foundation or the perfect mascara, or my "signature" lip color. I spent so much money and was never content in my findings. I wore makeup because I wasn't confident in my natural skin. I had blemishes to cover up and rosacea that left my cheeks red at all times. Once I found Rodan + Fields Skincare  my rosacea healed and my acne went away. It was AMAZING to be able to walk out of the house makeup free. Over the past two years my idea of "makeup" has changed dramatically. When we were packing our things to move to Hawaii, I found drawers and drawers of old makeup, barely used, that I didn't need anymore. I decided to cut my losses and throw it ALL away. It was so freeing.

Most days I don't wear any makeup at all. When I do wear makeup, I have a few products that I like to use. I have a little more makeup than this, but honestly, I don't use much. Embarking on a minimalistic life and freeing myself from the possessions I don't need has been such an amazing journey! I highly recommend it. :)

PS. you should go through your makeup every 6 months anyways because products can expire fast and nothing is more gross than 10 year old lipstick! (been there, threw away that).

MY MUST-HAVES:

1. Mineral Peptide Power in Medium and Bronze :

I cannot say enough good things about this powder. It is lightweight and gives an even coverage that looks NATURAL! My favorite part about it is that it contains amino acid peptides which protect your skin from the sun and other environmental factors! I use the Medium for all over my face and then the Bronze as a bronzer. It has SPF 20 in it and so this is a must-have in my beach bag and way easier to apply then face sunscreen.

2. Mac Painterly Paint Pot :

I have been loyal to this product since highschool. This paint pot is just a nude cream shadow that I put on my eyes instead of eye shadow. I put it on my eyelids before putting on eyeliner or mascara and it gives my eyelids just a little bit of brightness!

3. Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner :

Not gonna lie, I found out about this gem from Joanna Gaines on Fixer Upper! I don't wear eyeliner often but when i'm going out on a date night, I will line only my upper lash line with this. Its inexpensive, doesn't smear, and stays all day! I use the brown/black shade. :)

4. L'Oreal Telescopic Mascara:

This is another favorite of mine that I have been using since highschool! I love how it lengthens but also thickens your eyelashes. My favorite part about this mascara is the WAND! Its so unique and works super effectively. :) I remember in highschool I would go through so much of this mascara and would have to buy a new one each month! Since I've been using Lash Boost though, my lashes are already so long and thick that I just put one quick coat of this on and i'm good to go!

Thats it- My makeup routine is very simply these days but thats how I like it! I hope this was helpful for you and that you can try some of these products out! I would also encourage you to go through and minimize your own makeup collections. If you need help with your skin and want to be foundation free, just send me a quick e-mail and I can help you find something that works for you!

Have a great day everyone!!!

Hugs + Kissees
